The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a significant day in the liturgical calendar; it is the day the Catholic Church celebrates the conception of Mary in the womb of her mother, St. Anne, free from original sin. Mary was given this great gift in order to prepare her to be the Mother of God.
In the United States and in the Diocese of Wichita, we are under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception, making this day even more special. For the year 2015, on this day, Pope Francis opened the Jubilee Year of Mercy. The Sisters also had an additional reason to celebrate.
It was with great joy that the Sisters welcomed Bishop Carl A. Kemme, Bishop of Wichita, to their newly completed IHM Novitiate House for the Blessing of the Chapel and Building, a little over a year from the ground blessing. Fr. Ivan Eck, Fr. Ken Schuckman, Fr. Michael Peltzer and, Master of Ceremonies, Fr. Dan Duling, were also present for the event. Servers from Kapaun-Mount Carmel High School assisted at the blessing.
