In the Gospel, Jesus tells us to pray that the Lord of the harvest will send workers. He even admits that the workers are few in comparison with the abundance of the harvest (cf. Mt 9:37-38). Strange to say, I often think that prayer – the unum necessarium – is the one aspect of vocations work which we tend to forget or to undervalue!

Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, You have promised to answer the prayers of those who ask with faith and perseverance and so we continue to beg you for strong, dedicated and persevering young women for the IHM community.
God our Father, in Baptism You called me by name and made me a member of your Church. You placed within my heart an invitation to follow you along a particular path. Send your Spirit to guide and strengthen me that I may always do Your will as Jesus did. O Blessed Virgin Mary, help me to know God’s will for me; form within me a generous heart. As gift of yoru heart and as fruit of your tears, inspire generous young women to answer the call of your Son to love Him, the Bridegroom, with an undivided heart and to serve His Church as daughters of your Immaculate Heart. Amen.
We turn to you, Lord, in trust!
Son of God, sent by the Father to the men and women of every time and of every part of the earth! We call upon you through Mary, your Mother and ours: may the Church not lack in vocations, especially those dedicated in a special way to your Kingdom.
Jesus, only Saviour of mankind! We pray to you for our brothers and sisters who have answered "yes" to your call to the priesthood, to the consecrated life and to the missions. May their lives be renewed day by day, to become a living Gospel.
Merciful and holy Lord, continue to send new laborers into the harvest of your Kingdom!
Assist those whom you call to follow you in our day; contemplating your face, may they respond with joy to the wondrous mission that you entrust to them for the good of your People and of all men and women.
You who are God and live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
-John Paul II
Holy Father, look upon this humanity of ours, that is taking its first steps along the path of the Third Millenium.
Its life is still deeply marked by hatred, violence, and oppression, but the thirst for justice, truth, and grace still finds a space in the hearts of many people, who are waiting for someone to bring salvation enacted by You through Your Son Jesus.
There is need for courageous heralds of the Gospel, for generous servants of suffering humanity. Send holy priests to Your Church, we pray, who may sanctify Your people with the tools of Your grace.
Send numerous consecrated men and women, that they may show Your holiness in the midst of the world.
Send holy laborers into Your vineyard, that they may labor with the fervor of charity and, moved by Your Holy Spirit, may bring the salvation of Christ to the farthest ends of the Earth. Amen.
May the Lord of the harvest provide many holy priestly and religious vocations for His Church! —John Paul II
Opening Prayer. Father, in your plan for our salvation you provide shepherds for your people. Fill your Church with the spirit of courage and love. Raise up worthy ministers for your altars and ardent but gentle servants of the gospel. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, you Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one god, for ever and ever. Amen. Prayer over the Gifts. Lord, accept our prayers and gifts. Give the Church more priests and keep them faithful in their love and service. Grant this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen. Prayer After Communion. Lord, hear the prayers of those who are renewed with the bread of life at your holy table. By this sacrament of love bring to maturity the seeds you have sown in the field of your Church; may many of your people choose to serve you by devoting themselves to the service of their brothers and sisters. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty God, your son Jesus told us to pray for vocations since the harvest is great and the laborers are few. Help all of us who center our Catholic lives in word and sacrament to be active promoters of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The ministry of identifying and nurturing vocations belongs to each member of each family in our parish families. May we all accept this mission from Jesus with the determination that comes from faith. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
—Archbishop Elden F. Curtiss
O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church: Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit and give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord. Lord, give us holy priests; You Yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil's traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests. May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things. I ask You for a special blessing and for light, O Jesus, for the priests before whom I will make my confessions throughout my lifetime. Amen.
—Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the eternal Father, Son of the Virgin Mary, we thank you for offering your life in sacrifice on the Cross, and for renewing this sacrifice in every Mass celebrated throughout the world. In the power of the Holy Spirit we adore you and proclaim your living presence in the Eucharist. We desire to imitate the love you show us in your death and resurrection, by loving and serving one another. We ask you to call many young people to religious life, and to provide the holy and generous priests that are so needed in your Church today. Lord Jesus, hear our prayer. Amen.
—Cardinal Justin Rigali
Divine Savior Jesus Christ, who has entrusted the work of your redemption, the welfare, and salvation of the world to priests as your representatives, through the hands of your most holy Mother and for the sanctification of your priests and candidates for the priesthood, I offer you this present day wholly and entirely, with all its prayers, works, joys, sacrifices, and sorrows. Give us truly hold priests who, inflamed with the fire of your divine love, seek nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. And you, Mary, good Mother of priests, protect all priests in the dangers of their holy vocation and, with the loving hand of a mother, also lead back to the Good Shepherd those poor priests who have become unfaithful to their exalted vocation and have gone astray. Amen.

God our Father, you will all men and women to be saved and come to the knowledge of your Truth. Send workers into your great harvest that the Gospel may be preached to every creature and your people, gathered toegether by the Word of life and strengthened by the power of the Sacraments, may advance in the way of salvation and love. I ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
